Ride Leader John Gorman – The 10:00am start was around 32 degrees w/ a wind chill factor much lower, but with sunshine, so the ride went on. Only the ride leader, John Gorman and his wife Diane attended. This is the second time I’ve done this route and consider it an excellent route for new CC level riders to experience open road conditions. It contains one minor hill and a 2-mile gradual incline on the first 13 miles before a rest stop at the Cedarville Deli. The remainder of this ride is mostly flat with a second stop at the WAWA on MD-301. We did have to navigate some ice covered frozen sections in low lying shaded portions on the front end and the back end of this route. No mechanical and/or other issues experienced.

Temperatures were in the high 20’s at ride start, and there was wind in our faces for 2 straight miles at the start before we could turn away from it: but the weatherman on the radio said there was no wind.  I should turn off the radio in the car on the way to rides.  Sunny day and 3 Oxon Hill members were at this far away location:  Tom Roberson, Steve Palincsar and your ride leader.  We did some climbing, got warmed up, sat in the store for the rest stop for a long time, enjoying the heated room.  And then left to do a lot more climbing on the way back to the cars, and that took care of any chance to feel the cold.  Beautiful ride.

The morning weather report promised mild temperatures – so why were we all shivering in the parking lot?  Low dark clouds made for a chilly start.  But the sun came out about 6 miles into the ride and by the rest stop, jackets and head coverings were shed.  It turned out to be a bright, warm day – 62 degrees at the finish, according to Holly’s car.  Quite a crowd for winter: the 33 miles were covered by Linda and Paul Bankerd, guest Duann Bufoll, Holly Carr, Roger Cubbage, Richard Harrington, Jim and Jane Hudnall, Steve Palincsar, Mike and Regina Saizan, Tom Roberson and Dave Van Ameyden.  John Early met us at the Moreland store after a late start.  Roger made a wrong turn, but he too made it to the store.  Ride leader went searching for him before driving home, couldn’t find him, returned to the parking lot - and there he was, so all was well.  New photo opp: Jim brought out his tripod so he could be in the send-off picture.

Ride started at Accokeek Firehouse @ 10am. This was my last ride with the Oxon Hill group before moving to Florida (leaving on Thursday Jan 12th). Only Jim Hudnall showed up to ride on a cold monday morning. Shane stopped by on his way to work to say goodbye and it was much appreciated. Jim hammered the mostly flat route from the start and I had to work hard to keep up with him. We ended up averaging 17.4mph for the ride. Stopped for a cup of coffee at the convenient store on Brandywine to warm up - temperature was in the upper 30s with snow flurries.
I would like to say goodbye to all the people I met and rode with over the past 4 years. I'll miss the comradery and the rides. - Bob

Leader Polly Choate. No cue sheets were needed as this group of 9 seasoned riders headed down the rail trail to Smallwood State Park on a gloriously warm Sunday afternoon. Joining the leader were Jane and Jim Hudnall, Rita Bell, Jay Lewis, Diana and Dan Donahue, Calvin Conyers and Jon Agazzi, first time on his bike since the century. At the marina, we were treated to a picture-perfect kingfisher perched on a piling.

Leader Claire Chiamulera with members Holly Carr, Jan Tucker, Jay Lewis, Janell Saunders, John Choate, Larry Peed, Al Manley, Ken Meredith, Blake Altman, Sam Brasel, Robert Nunziata, Sharon Miller and George Chiamulera. Spring-like temperatures and sunny skies brought out a fine group of riders for a tour through central Charles County . We rode 45 miles from Laurel Springs Parkin La Plataout to Oak Ridge Parkin Hughesville, a slight change in destinations since Gilbert Run Park (original destination) is closed for the season. Sharon had a flat early in the ride and Sam, George and I stopped to assist. A friendly dog on the property where we stopped offered moral support and Sharon was back on the road quickly. At Oak Ridge , riders were removing layers and basking in the sunny warmth – a nice treat for January. Except for strong headwinds on a few roads, the return back to Laurel Springs was smooth.

32.94 mile ride starting from Accokeek firehouse. Jim Hudnall, Steve Palincsar, Mike & Regina Saizan, Bob Bencic.
Overcast and chilly at start, warming as we were riding. This was a relatively flat, fast ride, 15.0mph average, covering Accokeek Rd, Cedarville, and Brandywine. The group rolled back into the firehouse parking lot after approximately 2 hrs of riding.

Leaders Jackie and Randy Schoch. Riders were John Ricopan, Jeanne Ulrich, Lawrence Peed, Dana Treuas, Jane and Jim Hundall, and Calvin Conyers. What a great day for a ride. It was 63 degrees with a light wind. The only wildlife we saw was squirrels and a Eagle. I have seen in the past 2 eagles where the beaver dam is, so I was wondering where was the other one today. The biggest surprise was to see Bob Moye out on his bike. Bob was in a terrible bike accident 2 years ago, so it was great to see him today. Hopefully he will join us on Fridays for his training to ride his bike again. Great job, Bob!

The Fab Brew Crew section, of Oxon Hill Bike Club, went out for their inaugural bike ride of the year from Chesapeake Beach. The weather definitely cooperated.

Robin Brungard and Deb Brower led the A/B ride. Cathy Lucas and Jerry Finan led the C riders and made sure everyone finished safely. Fifteen members participated. We completed a 22-mile bike ride and watched the Polar Bear plunge in North Beach. We finished at Deb Brower's house in Chesapeake Beach with a potluck luncheon and New Year's drinks. A great time was had by all and there is talk about making this an annual event. Thanks to Robin for planning our route and to Deb for opening up her lovely home to all of us.
