Frederick County has twenty-nine historic bridges, ten on the National Register of Historic Places, including the famous Roddy Road, Loy's Station and Utica covered bridges. The rest are metal truss bridges built in the 19th and early 20th centuries. They're fun to look at and ride through, but more importantly these century-old bridges are found on rural back roads with little traffic which comprise some of the most scenic and best cycling roads in the Greater Washington area.
On this ride we'll visit all three covered bridges and ride over several of the metal truss bridges. Rest stops at Loy's Station Park, Mt St Mary's College and the High's in Thurmont. First food and water on the route are at mile 22, so prepare accordingly. 43 miles, 1600' elevation gain.
