Frederick County has twenty-nine historic bridges, ten on the National Register of Historic Places, including Roddy Road, Loy's Station and Utica covered bridges and the Legore Road stone arch bridge. The others are metal truss bridges built in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
On this ride we'll visit, all three covered bridges, the Legore stone arch bridge and several metal truss bridges. Just for fun we'll also stop at the Rocky Ridge Big Slide and the Sunhaven Farm Longhorn cattle ranch.
These bridges fun to look at and ride through, but more importantly, these century-old bridges are found on rural back roads with little traffic and no heavily loaded vehicles, some of the most scenic and best cycling roads in the Greater Washington area.
