If you're looking for a chance to escape Thanksgiving for part of the day, here's a fairly short, close-in ride to do just that. We'll cross over 14th St Bridge into the District and ride through the Mall and past the Capitol through quiet residential neighborhoods. After a coffee stop at the Union Market we'll ride to the National Arboretum and through the grounds. We'll return through quiet neighborhoods past Lincoln Park, making another coffee stop at Eastern Market, then ride past Congressional office buildings and through the Mall back to Columbia Island Marina. 20 miles, 800' of elevation gain.
Note: to add 10 miles, start at the Washington Sailing Marina and ride the 5 miles (one way) down to the Columbia Island Marina ride start on the Mount Vernon Trail. Allow approximately 30 minutes for the ride (again, one way).
