There are many ways to ride to Lower Marlboro, here’s version #2. We’ll begin at the Route 260 Recreation Area (portolet but no water or shade), go north into southern Anne Arundel County and quickly come south on McKendree (hill is 10% grade). We’ll cross over the backbone of Calvert County on local roads and make a short side trip to the Huntingtown NRMA where there is a portolet and shade but no water. We’ll retrace our tracks back to Lower Marlboro Road to the historic town and pier with a nice view of the Patuxent River (no portolet, water, or shade). We hope to take Flint Hill Road (steep hill 10% grade but short & walkable) but if it’s under construction, we’ll use Chaneyville and other local roads to Friendship. We can stop at the Fairview Library at Chaneyville Rd and Route 4 if anyone needs cold water and real bathrooms. From Friendship it’s a short ride on Wilson, Jewell and Route 260 back to the hot cars.
