"Celebrating with Pride on the Potomac" Bike Tour

Bike to Fort Washington National Park and Piscataway Park where the Potomac River Heritage Tourism Alliance is hosting a weekend of events to commemorate the bicentennial of the War of 1812.

  • Bike part of the on-road route of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail
  • Stop at Fort Washington to learn about its role in the War of 1812
  • See War of 1812 living history interpretation on the National Colonial Farm
  • Take a deck tour of the Pride of Baltimore II, a reconstruction of an early 19th century Baltimore Clipper topsail schooner
  • Enjoy food from local vendors featuring fresh, all natural ingredients
  • Listen to musical performances by Jennifer Cutting's OCEAN

The bike tour leaves at 9:00 am from the Fort Washington Fringe Parking Lot at Swan Creek Rd E & Gable Lane (west of MD-210).

The route is at http://ridewithgps.com/routes/4935163. It is an easy 7-mile ride to the fort (with one steep hill.) After a stop at the fort, the route continues on for another 13 miles to the National Colonial Farm (with several steep hills and roads with no shoulders.) Riders can enjoy the festivities at the farm and return (ten miles) on their own whenever they desire. Activities go on at the farm until 5 pm. . The $10 event admission fee is waived for cyclists. Bring a bike lock and money for food.
