We had another simply beautiful day in Frederick County, riding the rolling hills, admiring the growing corn and wheat, and visiting 3 historic covered bridges.
RIDERS: Fran Bernstein Carol Dreher, Jessica Hirschhorn, Lynda Honberg, Kathy King, Larry Poole, Kim Stackman and Anne Wittenberg.
We were challenged by a persistent headwind for the final 10 miles, and a stretch of newly laid asphalt outside of Thurmont that imbedded into our tires, necessitating a stop and brushing off. Right before Utica Bridge the road was CLOSED for roadwork but they kindly let our group ride through single file.
Ann had a mechanical - something about a chain guard malfunctioning - glad she is a bike mechanic! Kathy had a minor fall when a pickup truck stopped suddenly on a bridge and she could not unclip in time. No sequelae for cyclist or bicycle.
The greatest VICTORY? Larry Pool rode a longer distance than he had ever ridden in his life. Congratulations and strong work, Larry! See photo .
