Report: Awesome showing for the A ride! Lots of familiar faces of people who we had not seen in a long while. Especially nice to have another female rider. Greeting those who were making their first CJE appearance of the session, everyone did some quick hugs and handshakes before we started. There was some first-time-out-this-season talk with promises of being lucky if they averaged 15 mph. Well, those sandbaggers did not show up - everyone came in with a 17 mph average or better. Everyone was ready to ride in the first 90 degree CJE for the year.
After a few people recovered their lost items at the RR crossing on Bel Alton-Newtown Rd, we became spread out and regrouped at the top of the hill on Charles St. We formed a strong pace line that carried us all the way to the east end of Allen's Fresh Rd where traffic separated us again. Our pace line rotated regularly and afforded some rest from the heat. Along the way, Paul Bales drove by in his car and stopped a few time to take our pictures. Can't wait to see them.
From Allen's Fresh, Kishia and Chuck paired up to the end while Rob, Holden, and Jean rode together. On 301, Holden got a flat from a nail. Holden quickly changed the tire and we were back on the way. Rob rode with Holden who was having some cramps in his neck...truly a pain in the neck. Jean rode ahead so that she could make it to bike doctor before they closed.
In the end, everyone was sweaty and smiling! Great ride! Glad to see everyone!
