Report: As we gathered, everyone was grateful for an afternoon ride on a beautiful Spring day.  Just after we left Laurel Springs Park, we passed Mike Blaine who crossed the street and joined us until we got to the rest stop.  The group quickly broke into two groups: a large pack of fast riders who wanted to hammer and a less aggressive group that included the ride leaders, Dan, and Mike Blaine.  We chatted as we cruised down the IHRT.  After the rest stop, the group broke into two groups again with the leaders by themselves in the rear group.  Other riders said that the lead group broke up as some wanted to continue hammering and the rest did not.  Thanks to everyone who came out to enjoy riding and being outdoors.  Everyone seemed to get what they wanted out of the ride.

    Members: Harry Kidd, Sarah Clement

Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/15196933  45 mi, 1667' of elevation gain (notably Franklin Gibson south of Trott's Branch)

Weather: sunny, breezy to windy (there's just no way that was a 7 mph wind, as weather.com claimed) with temps in the 50s at the start rising to an indicated 65 by the ride's end.  The sun was warm, the air was cool.

Mishaps & mechanicals: Harry hit a pothole and got a flat 3 miles from the start.  When he finally got it fixed he decided that having used his only spare tube, turning around and returning to the start was the prudent move.

Report: Beautiful spring morning to go riding with a great group of people. The group expanded to sub-groups along the way but managed to regroup at each of the two rest stops and along the way. Roads travelled were comfortable and not overly congested with traffic.

    Ride Name:  About Nanjemoy

    Ride Distance: 47 Miles

Average Speed of the Ride:  18.0-19.9 MPH

    Ride Class:  AA/3 Sport

    Mechanical Issues: None

    Mishaps: None

Weather:  About 47 degrees at the start by the end mid 60’s, breezy, sunny

    Guest Riders:  None

Member Riders:  Darin King, George Valenzuela, Steve Koegle, Pete Czapiewski, David Kemp

    Ride Report:

The ride split within the first 10 miles.  The rear group consisting of the ride leader and one other rider made our way toward the rest stop at a decent but not a killer pace.  At the intersection of Maryland Point Road and Maryland 6 we encountered Darin who had paused to say good bye before his planned short-cut back to the start.  At 6 Darin turned left and the rear group turned right to continue on the ride. I estimate Darin cut 10 or fewer miles off of the ride.

At the rest stop we encountered the front group who had kindly waited for us even though we were significantly behind.  After a break we continued on Route 6 worked our way up-wind the rest of the way to the finish.  The group soon split again with the same cast of characters in the front and rear groups.

Nothing else of note occurred except we encountered a group of wild turkeys during the ride; they flew away and demonstrated that turkeys can fly pretty well – at least for a while.

It was a nice day for a ride.

Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/19549642  49.6 mi, 1852' of elevation gain in rural Fauquier and Culpeper Counties in the Northern Virginia countryside

Weather: 50s at the start rising to a high in the low 60s, winds over 15 mph and alternating heavy clouds blocking the sun and dropping the temperature into the 50s and then parting. allowing warm sunshine to quickly bring the temperatures up into the 60s on a 15 or 20 minute cycle.

    Mishaps & mechanicals: none

    AMS: 13.1

I originally listed this ride only with Potomac Pedalers, but there were 6 rides on the PPTC schedule today including a century and no real rides posted on the OHBike schedule except an April Fools prank posting, so at the last minute I decided to add it to the Oxon Hill schedule in case someone wanted to do an actual ride.  I'm glad I did, because Karen came to join Bill and Larry from PPTC.  It was windy: sometimes we were working hard to make 11 mph and then we'd turn and the wind would be at our backs and we'd fly down the road at 19 mph for the same level of effort.  And sometimes it would be warm, then after a while change to chilly and then back again.  But in all, a fun ride and an excellent day for riding!

Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/13839010 Poplar Hill and Eagle Harbor, taking us first to Moreland Market, then to the lovely banks of the Patuxent at Cedar Haven Fishing Area, then back via 5 Points and Rt 381

Weather: overcast and mid 40s at start, warming up to mid 50s with occasional sun, not too windy

    AMS: about 17 at front

Report: Good turnout today despite the fact that it seemed to be winter again at first. We warmed up quickly, though, soon breaking into smaller groups and all keeping up a good pace, arriving at Moreland Mkt within a few minutes of each other. We then headed down to Eagle Harbor, and, after a little breather, all greatly enjoyed the climb back up to Rt 381. Those of us who didn't break off at various points to ride directly back home then took advantage of a nice tailwind to North Keys. We are hoping this will be one of the last days, if not THE last, that we'll need winter gear. Thanks to all who came out to ride today!

Weather: overcast and mid 40s at start, warming up to mid 50s with occasional sun, breezy.

    AMS: 13.1

    Mishaps & mechanicals: none

Report: With Joan on the injured reserve list & Ron dealing with family illnesses, it was just Pat and me today.  We arrived at the Moreland Market just in time to see the A/B group leave.  We saw one rider down at Eagle Harbor, possibly the last in the A/B group.

Report: First Tour de Accokeek of the year. Good turnout today despite the cooler temperatures in the evening. We enjoyed great conversation during the ride and rode together motivating each other. A special welcome to Rosalind Wright who rode with the club for the first time! Thanks to Tim and Ron for coming out. It was great seeing them and they were riding strong already this early in the season. Ron rode from Bike Doctor to the ride and then rode home as we tackled Barry's Hill. Thanks to all who came out to ride today!

Weather:  Almost perfect.  Temp Low 60s. A bit of a breeze

We kicked off the first Casey Jones Express A ride with moderate expectations for ourselves, since it was our first express ride of the season.  Ken, Diane, and I were evenly matched and quickly formed an effective pace line, regularly rotating the lead.  We cruised along and barely noticed the wind.  We slowed a bit to chat on Fairgrounds Road.  Diane mentioned that she needed this type of ride at least once a week.  I could not agree with her more.  At the finish, we shared fist-bumps to celebrate our teamwork and 100% effort that resulted in a mid-A pace.  All those Winter base miles and cross-training paid off.  Great start to the CJE season.
