New Year's Day DC Monuments Tour! - 10:30 am - Dangerfield Island

  • Mon, January 01, 2024
  • 10:30 AM - 1:30 PM
  • Dangerfield Island, on George Washington Parkway between airport and Old Town

Registration

  • Non-members may come on one ride as a guest of the club.

We celebrate the New Year by visiting iconic monuments and sites in DC in company of riding friends on a very low traffic day in DC. Pace depends on how many stops/photo opps we make. Official rest stop at a coffee shop near the White House.

NOTE - Start time is set at 10:30, but depending on predicted conditions at start time, the start may be moved to 11:00 am.

We meet at Dangerfield Island – south of the airport, with ample parking and a bathroom. For those who wish to start elsewhere, please plan to meet us about 10:15 at Dangerfield Island. We regroup at the Jefferson Memorial after about 4 miles and then ride a more or less 8-9 mile loop back to the Jefferson, going clockwise to see FDR, MLK, Lincoln, the Mall, the White House, Capitol, Supreme Court, LOC, Botanical Garden, Washington Monument. Rest stop at a coffee shop at about mile 7.

Possible stops are for the national Christmas and state trees at the Elipse and the wonderful (outdoor) train display at the Botanical Garden. In the past we have stopped at a coffee shop for a bathroom and snacks at about mile 7. We pass Hains Point twice, at beginning and end of our DC loop, if anyone wants to join the traditional New Year’s Day cycling crowd there.
