Mon, May 15, 2017 9:30 AM | Stephen Palincsar (Administrator)

Ride leader: Steve Palincsar

Members: Jim Hudnall, joining en route

Weather: sunny, windy, 60s at the start and chilly due to the wind, rising to almost 80 by early afternoon, but still chilly due to the wind.

Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/13453011

Mishaps & mechanicals: none

AMS: 11.5

I didn't expect anyone at Accokeek Firehouse, and unsurprisingly no one came.  Taylor Ave was as challenging as ever.  When I got down to the bottom of the hill leading to the lighthouse I found renovations under way at the rest room.  Leaving the Fort I noticed PHT marker signs along my route through Tantallon.  I'd just finished giving directions to a lost motorist trying to find Fort Washington who had ended up at Swan Creek when I found Jim riding towards me on Riverview Rd., having ridden from home to intercept me.  We stayed together to Miller Farms and down Thrift Hill to Floral Park.  At Floral Park and Livingston he turned north on Livingston to head home.  (I wonder if he took the Taylor Ave Bypass...)  The remainder of the ride was windy, but uneventful.

I did make the left turn onto Taylor Avenue, but then made right turn and went up Chalfont, which at one point had grade of 14.8 degrees. Max grade on Taylor is about 12.8 degrees. For my ride, see https://ridewithgps.com/trips/14598578.
